C230 hOOD STAR
 

I orderd a hood star for My wifes 2002 c 230 kompressor, and I am confused on how to install it. First of all the base of the new genuine replacement star is about an inch and three quarters diameter and the original is a riveted in emblem plug about two and one half inches in diameter.

I have replaced the stars before on my older Mercedes by twisting the old spring loaded mechanism to unlock and replacing with the equivalent spring loaded twist and lock mechanism.

It looks like I have to drill out the rivets on the emblem plug to remove, but my concern is that there will be a mark on the paint that will be visable when the new star is installed, or the star will not fit the hood at all.
Has any had experience with this.

There are 2 iterations of the star from the past 15 years or so. I forget when they changed, but it sounds like you ordered the wrong one. I would return it and order one from fastlane for your year and model.. New OEM ones are only like $30
