EPC Fault Code

Hi friends. Search for this code fault in this forum without success. Does anyone knows what is the purpose of this Electronic Power Control? My car is a Mercedes Benz S430 2001 24,000 miles). The fault is coming on and off, yesterday at night it came on. Today this morning is already erased. What should I look for? I tried to find the code fault in my WIS software but impossible for me to find this information in this complicated software. Any suggestion are more than welcome

So what was the code. EPC means transmission. P2 ???

Didn't read the code

Thank you for your reply. I just noticed the fault in the display, but have not attached the OBD-II code reader. Not sure it will read this fault. At this time, there is no fault. I am carrying the tool with me in case it shows again. When you said "transmission" you mean the car transmission (Trans-axle) or the transmission of data? Sorry for my ignorance, not to familiar with this fault code thing.

Thank you again.

Re: EPC Malfunction

Hello again. I just got the malfucntion display again so thanks to this forum, I managed to read the code with my old OBD-II reader. The codes were P0170 and P0173 which are Fuel Trim Malfunction Bank 1 and Bank 2. Any suggestion of where should I start looking? If both came bad at the same time it probably something involving both (vaccum problem or else). The car behaves within normal limits so not sure where to start.

Another issue is the fuel gauge is shutting down all the time, it just stop reading the fuel level. This had been like this since I got the car in 2005. Not sure if it is related but read something about the gas tank cap not sealing well causing the Check Engine light to come off.

Any suggestion are welcome. I read something about the adaptation of the fuel adjustment and other complicated terms I am not used to so need some education in this area.

Thanks.

Darrel

Those codes are not transmission related, but are suggesting a problem with the fuel mixture.

Either a vacuum leak OR mass air flow sensor.

Thanks!

Yes, I will start looking at the vacuum lines and try to clean the MAF. Thank you. Darrel
