change instrument lighting colour?

I wondered if any of you has tried changing the instrument lighting colour to either red like a BMW or Audi or blue like a new VW? Should be very easy to do... just remove the bulbs and paint with a solvent based glass paint, which is available in any art and craft shop. I haven't done this to mine but I have coloured indicator bulbs orange to go behind the clear euro indicator lenses.

Don't change the instrument cluster light to blue, blue light is the absolute worst for night vision.

Yes, agreed. I have heard (I think from Larry Bible and others) that looking into the night after looking at blue lighting (IE instrument cluster), makes it very hard to see. I would just keep the lights the way they are... Mercedes knew what they were doing when the put the lights in!

Yeah, I had tried several coloured bulbs before, and the blue and red were awful in the dark. What I found quite pleasing (IMO) though were orange coloured bulbs that are normally used for side indicators.

Still using them.

Interesting, that the new SL's cockpit gauges are illuminated with BLUE!!! The engineers must not read this forum.
