M104 belt tensioner bearing
 

To anyone that wants to just replace the bearing in the belt tensioner pulley, use this info. I did this last night and it went very smoothly. I dont have any pics but its really easy. Just source a bearing of:

ID: 15mm
OD: 35mm
W: 16mm

I sourced one locally.

Mine was getting loud like alot of other of the ancillaries (high mileage). Hope this helps some save some cash. A new pulley was about $65 if I believe. The bearing was about 20. It took about 2 minutes to pound the old bearing out, and 30 seconds to tap in the second one.

Is that for the 92 mm or 80 mm pulley? I would assume it is the 92 mm as the newer M104 came with the 80 mm.

I believe mine is the 92MM, correct. The part number on my pulley is: 119 200 14 70.

I do believe the bearings are the same though, someone may correct me?

Yes, that is the 92 mm. The 80 mm has a part number staring with 104 . . I just replaced mine.

However, I still have the noise so I think I need to replace the tensioner. I have the latest M104 tensioner and it should be easy to replace. It looks the water pump pulley has to be removed.

If the earlier tensioner, it is also applicable to the 103 guys, same tensioner assembly.

I have pretty much silenced all moving pulleys under the hood. There is one when its cold however, very slight, and then goes away once warm. I think its coming from the fan clutch bearing bracket. Has anyone popped that bearing out? I will probably do that soon and let you guys know.

Its been a long journey but its nearly complete. I bought my E320 from a fairly well to do guy, he had stored it for 3 years because he got a newer car. He had planned to ship it to Florida for his summer home, but just never did. However, at 197K, and sitting so long, didn't do any favors to the mechanicals. All four wheels were locked up beyond belief.

There are a few that are very close but the width is not exact.

Your 95 has the new style tensioner, right?

Well if the width is close, you can probably get away with it. The other 2 have to be spot on.

The closest they have is ID: 15mm x OD: 35mm x W: 14mm. I think that is too much off (2 mm).

Hmmm....well here is the one I got locally. They had it in stock, so I dont think it can be that hard to source. He said it was a "wide series". The picture isnt that good but you get the idea. I do believe the OE bearing is a "FAG". There was a part number on it but it got scraped off when I removed it.

Yup thats it! The guy said the difference between 5/8 and 16mm is negligible. It actually transfers out to be 15.875 mm.
