124 outside mirror glass replacement
How hard is it to change out a pitted and spotted outside mirror glass? Anybody DIY or send it to a dealer to do it? I couldn't find it on the 124 service CD. Thanx for the help.

Gently pry it out, it just snaps in. You will have to remove the adjusting lever and interior trim to unplug the heater cable.
When you put the new one in, make sure the tab sticking straight out behind the glass goes into the spring slot instead of bending over to one side. VERY easy fix, easier that the interior mirror. Peter

It's VERY easy-just did it yesterday. I'll show you the disassembled mirror when I see you

I just did my right side on my 190E.
The power mirror is the same for the 300E. BE CAREFUL putting in the new glass. Very hard to put in! I just pried out the inside cover, took out the 3 cross head screws undid the electric cord (also screwed in centre) and replaced the glass in my downstairs work bench. I had the best results putting the mirror in a vice, (towels around the outside) and aiming the frame for the power mirror motor directly upward then progressively and slowly pushing the new glass down. Then it'll firmly snap into place.... Good luck with your car brother! Mike McKinney

Thanks, Mike. Yeah, getting the glass out is tough, but unnecessary in my case since the new mirror assembly includes glass and the rubber "hood" part between the mirror assy. and the dor.. However, I DID have to get the painted parts off, which was tough-ended up bringing it to my tech, and he even had to maul it a bit to get it apart. I really can't see any possible way to do this job cleaner-if you need to do a mirror assy (not just the glass, but the entire mechanism), then assuredly buy the painted part too (it's color-coded, so would've been painted). I re-used mine, and am waiting for it to pop off. And yes I purchased the other piece. Total outlay-$200ish US.
