Alternator/Battery Light

I posted this in the SL forum but haven;t gotten a response. So I;m hoping someone here can help. Just finished putting the engine of my 380sl back together after overhauling almost everything other than the cylinders and pistons. So far most things seem to be operating as they should -- thank God. However, I can't seem to get the battery/alternator light to come on when I turn the key, even though the bulb is good and the alternator is putting out 14V.

If i'm not mistaken, the light is activated by the blue wire in the connector that goes into the back of the alternator, but I'm not sure where that wire goes from there, how it operates, or how to test the circuit. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

charge light

if you remove The blue wire that goes to the alt. and ground it the red light should come on. if not replace the regulator . this is the ground end of the wire the other end has the bulb and 12 V at the gauge end.
with the alt charging there is 12 at the end where the blue wire connects otherwise zero.

Thanks a million, Mak. I'll check it out as soon as I get the chance. However, could the alternator still charge if the regulator were bad? I'm definitely getting 13+ at the battery with the motor running.
