90s V8s
I'm not much up on the 5-series engines. What is the displacement of the early 90s 5-something, something v8 motors & are they any good?

"5-series" means BMW and this is a Mercedes forum.
Early '90s BMW V8s had problems with Nikasil cylinder coating and many engines were replaced. You don't want one.

The 90s had 3 different series of V8. The early 90s had two. A more specific question would be helpful.

A place to start:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_M119_engine Many consider the M119 to be about the best MB V8 ever.

Best V8 - I'd say it's the best engine they ever made. Unfortunately it was often teamed up with a troublesome ASR system.

phil, the article was a big help. There is one in the u-pick-it yard and I figured I could get it cheap ---IF it is any good.
