Drivers Power Window 1996 C-280

The drivers power window on my 1996 C-280 won't go down. All the other windows work fine going both up and down. When I push the switch to the UP position I can hear the motor (or a relay in the door) click and the dash lights slightly dim momentarily; when I push the switch to the DOWN position no sound and no slight dimming of the dash lights.

I took the switch mechanism out of the console and manually operated the little booted button with no success.

Does this car have relays for the power windows? If so, where are they located?

Any ideas on how I can determine if it is the motor, switch, relay, or whatever?

Thanks,

Fearless

There is a window/ sunroof computer that operates the windows. The switch sends signal to this computer & it relays info to the window motor. IF only the one window has a problem I would think that you have a mechanical problem with the window lifter inside of that door.

Dear M.B. DOC:

THANK YOU. Is there anything I should know when removing the door panel to get to the lift mechanism?

FYI: the relay in a 1996 C class is mounted in the trunk behind the battery.

The door panel has a Phillips screw under the armrest, one under the optional SRS badge, one in the door lock trim and one near the doorhandle.
The speaker grating has a screw in the bottom after which it can be pried out (starting in the lower, outer corner)
The bottom and side need to be pulled away from the door (fastened with plastic clamps) and the top needs to be pulled upwards to get it released.

greetingz,

Thanks every one. The problem turned out to be the switch on the console. I have spoken with Phil and a new one is $95.

Thanks again
