1997 E420 double air intake?
 

I know that the M119 on the prevous E420 had a double air intake and that the E55 has a double air intake.
Any reason the 1997 E420 just has a single air intake? Would it make sense to retrofit the air intake of the 1994-1995 M119 on the 1997 one. It seems that it would drastically increase air flow - but maybe more airflow is not needed . . .

The M119 EFI doesn't have variable intake resonance, the M113 does.

The M113 did not go into production untill 1998...

I have not seen any changes in intake manifold design on the M119.

When you look at the engine of a 400E or an E55, there are two hoses providing air to the top of the engine. Each getting air generally on both sides of the radiator.
On a 1997 E420, there is only one hose providing air from the right side of the radiator. I am getting my information from looking at my car and pictures of the engine bay of the 400E and E55. For that matter, I believe the S420 also had two air intake hoses. Did that answer your question?

I think Benzmac misunderstood your question. Benzmac was talking about the intake manifold, where you are talking about the air intake.

I'm sure the engineers at MB took air flow restriction into consideration when redesigning the air intake. If you are looking for more air flow, then a K&N air filter may fit your needs.

I don't know if you can easily retrofit the dual air intake from the older M119s. It may work, but I'm sure the needed parts would cost more than it is worth.
