Rear Stabilizer bar - safety risk?

Has anyone ever had a MB without a stabilizer bar?

Mine has fallen off one side - makes an awful clunking on the other when rounding corners and going over bumps. The mounts to the frame have completely rotted/rusted out. So rusty, probably impossible to weld.

The car is only worth $1000 and has many other things wrong with it - not worth fixing, but I do want to keep driving it.

Is it safe? It can't be any worse than it is right now as one mount is completely rusted out. I have taken it out on a deserted road at low speeds and woven violently side to side to see what the feel is like - I don't feel much difference. Roll isn't any more noticeable - does anyone know how important that is to regular stability?

Thanks for the replies.

I'd let it roll! I don't see a safety issue here.

Thanks Benzmac. I appreciate it.

stabilizer bar...is that the same part as swaybar?

Mercedes sells the Sprinter ((mini)van) in Europe with AND without rear swaybars...the difference of having a swaybar or not on a loaded van is huge, but as long as the van isn't filled with whatever...there is no problem at all...

Nevertheless Mercedes does sell new vehicles without rear swaybars (for whatever (cheap!) reason).

greetingz,
