1995 E320 bottom-of-windshield lip seal
 

I replaced the pollen filter in my E320 and cannot get that bottom-most wide rubber seal that runs the base of the windshield back in place the way it was. The WIS says to pull down and up. There is a plastic U-clip that attaches to the bottom of the glass. It just won't stay in place securely. Does anyone know the secret to this?

That U channel is the key. It has to be securely attached to the glass. I took mine off completely, cleaned it and reattached it with a 2 part epoxy adhesive. Then you have to feed the top rubber into it,,,, not a real easy task but it can be done.

Damn, so you mean every time I change the pollen filters, I have to break the seal and then re-epoxy it? Wow, no wonder no one changes their pollen filters on these cars - not only are they a bear to access, but the lip seal is an ordeal.

No,,, that U channel should never come off the glass, but due to age they usually separate. Once you clean it good and reglue it, you should be good for many years.

The problem with the U channel is you have to comepletely clean the dirt out of it or the seals lip will not seat into the bottom of the channel...I use a soap spray and a few Q-Tips..you then just WD40 the lip and pop it into the channel, but you have to start at the end and work it in as you go, just like you would do with a a zip-lock bag seal.

Clean the seal too.........
