Date of Manufacture Question

I just bought a used 2006 E350 4matic. I was looking for this car for several months before I bought. The nameplate states manufacturing date of 3/06 and the title states 2006. I've see cars offered at 2006 with nameplate that went back to 4/05. Can anyone explain this and/or the cut off from one year to the next. Just wondering when the 07's came out to when mine was finished.

That varies from year to year & even from model to model.

"Most" MB model year change-overs happen in July & August.

Question VERY EARLY mfg. date

My 2006 E350 wagon has a sticker with the manufacture date noted of January 2005 but it is titled as a 2006 model. Some additional paperwork notes that it was truly manufactured the first week of January 2005.

This seems very early to be manufacturing an item that normally would not be actually sold for 6 or 7 months???

There are federal regulations regarding model year versus calendar year. Remember how many manufacturers wanted to be first with a 2000 model? I'm not sure if it was the manufacturing date or the date the car could go on sale, but for the 2000 model year it was January 1, 1999 and was January 1, 2021 for the 2022 model year.

I think it's the first day the car can be sold to the public, so for 2000 the actual manufacturing date could be late '98. I recall the first was the resurrected Ford Thunderbird.
