wet the transmission pan gasket with ATF?
Before you install a new transmission pan gasket, do you wet (or wipe) the pan gasket with transmission fluid?
When I change engine oil filter, I wipe the new o-ring for the filter case cap with engine oil. |
Never have thus far.

I do, I think it helps the gasket to seat properly. I haven't read anywhere that you should do this, it just seems like a good idea. If anyone is aware of a reason not to, please tell us about it.

I just did my second one and did not wet the gasket. No issues here.

Never
the surface of the gasket should be dry, the surface of the transmission should be dry. wetting the gasket could make you think theres a leak and will be hard to tell if there is or not. I clean the surface of the pan in the parts washer and brakleen the transmission then blow it dry, wipe again with a clean rag and blow it clean again. |
