Angry 2-Yeard old stole Dad's upper timing cover (103)

I have beaten my child to within an inch of his life, (kidding, people) but he will not tell me where he put Daddy's upper timing chain cover. (87 260E with 103 engine)

Has anybody got a spare that they'll part with cheap? I'll just hate the idea of buying a new part for this... It's not like they ever wear out... the only people in the world that would ever buy one are folks who let their kid help with their rebuilds.

I am in Charleston, SC.

Many Thanks, in advance.

Sorry I don't have one to offer.

But, pay the money gladly and continue to let him "help Daddy" even though he's probably usually holding up progress. My kids are now college and high school age, and I wish I had been more patient with them when they wanted to help.

You're a good parent.

Good luck,

Thanks, Larry.

I do love to have the "help" from my little guy. He loves to sit in the driver's seat and shout, "So where ya wanna go?" Then he comes around to the engine and quotes a few lines from his book Big Joe's Trailer Truck. Good fun having my little helper around.

It's just that some time in the last two weeks, I think he helped Daddy clean the garage, as that part is NOWHERE.

Of course, the moment I receive the spare, it'll turn up somewhere in toddler range. . . ARRGGHH.

So close to finishing, yet so far...

Thanks again.

This reminds me of a similar incident when my father was overhauling the 4.2L engine in his XKE when I was young. My mother, in the course of cleaning the garage, threw out 1 main crank journal cap. Talk about expesive to replace. It had to be re align-bored with the new cap! It added months to the task, most of it looking for the cap before conceding that it was gone.

My brother and I once "helped daddy" by enjoying the satisfying soun that gravel makes as it slides doen the filler cap and splashes into the gas tank. Only problems were that after a while it stopped splashing, and later the car could only be driven about 10 miles on a "full" tank. Don't ask the little guy to explain why or where, he probably doesn't know, except that it seemed like a good idea at the time! In an incredibly short (in retrospect) time he will be moving out, running his company, starting a family, and you'll wish someone was still there to hide your tools and parts .

I would try They have a location in MD and I have bought many used parts from them. The place in MD is spotless, it is like an airport hanger with cars neatly stacked on shelves, as high as you can see. Very great service too!!
