1997 S 320 with 64k mileage

I just bought this and drove from missouri to virginia average 25 MPG

There are bunch of small chips and scratches but some of them will go away after detailing I am sure

The guy inherited from his uncle and do not have history (I checked carfax)
But I bought for very good price it did not bother me much

I am planning to change oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs (not sure about this resistance no resistance stuff yet)
Is there any other things i should check, change etc.

Thanks

Transmission filter and fluid....I always do this on an unknown car.

Dealer quoted me for $300
is that normal?

csback 03-22-2009 04:41 PM

the price is normal for a dealer....about twice what a decent local mechanic would charge!

Yes, the W140 chassis ran from 1992-1999. :)

And what's interesting is that even though the other chassis went to the M113 V6 in 1998, W140 S320 chassis cars kept the 3.2 liter M104 straight 6 engine until the end of the model run in 1999.

Brake fluid bleed, R&R.

Transmission fluid and filter change.

Radiator coolant flush R&R

Check belts / hoses.

Figures......

Do it yourself for about $125.00, using Mercedes-Benz transmission fluid.

Almost the same thing as with the 126 to 140 transition - both 119 and 104 motors were available in MY 1990 but the 126 stuck with the prior generation motors.

Kind of a shame...I would've loved to have seen a W126 with an M119. :D

It may be a bit of a drive for you, but I can vouch for Brown's Mercedes in Charlottesville.
