Overheard at the dealership while I was picking up some parts: R-Class referred to as an "Alabama trash can."
The car in question was on the lift with the engine, tranny, exhaust, and most of the drive line out of it. The tech told me it was a warranty job to replace a seal. Anyone know which seal that might be? So Rick Wagoner could have a job running the Alabama show.

Interesting comment since drivetrain is not made in Alabama and is pretty much the same as used in all other 4MATICS no matter where they are assembled.
I guess I would take the Mercedes technicians comment with a "grain of salt" and would never want this one to work on my car. Maybe he should find employment elsewhere. |

Un scientific observation. At the dealer shop ML's are 5 to 1 over sedans. I don't know what the sales ratio's are but it sure is obvious.

Ahhh, a G-Wagen. I think NAPA quoted you on the wrong part. The part number is A463-463-00-32, list price is $210.

The OEM ones seem to like to wear out quickly, so I wanted to try something else.

I would keep the W126 because it's an easier car to work on and parts are still readily available at reasonable prices. Heck, I can get a completely rebuilt engine for under $10K and have a car that would outlast a newer car at the time of the swap.
