What would make a euro M103 faster than a US?
 
I know with the V8s, the euros have better exhaust and higher compression, but is the same true to for the M103 straight six?

Earlier Euro models had less pollution plumbing and other restrictions often resulting in more HP. The Euro version of my "77 230 had about 20 more HP - a significant difference in a low powered 4 cyl. engine.

The Euro M103-12V had +11HP and +4 torque over the USA version.
Compression on both is 9.2:1
No cats and more timing are the main difference in power output.
