E500E Has a W123 Rear?
I had the privilage of spending nearly one hour under a '94 E500 last evening (while it was on a lift...). I noticed that the Part Number for the Rear Diffential Housing has a "W123" Part Number stamped into it - indicating that the entire housing is of the W123 series of parts...?
Actually, so many parts on the E500 were also of the "140" line as well (Transmission....). - Can anyone confirm that Mercedes did really use the W123 Rear Differential Housing for the E500E? - Did all E500Es have the 129 series Automatic Trans, or could they also have had the housing/AT from a 140 series too? It was 100% definately on this car (and a great car at that...)! |
The E500/500E (W124.036) has a larger differential than any W123 car.
W123 cars used a 185MM ring gear diff & the E500 used the 210MM ring gear differential |
E500 /500E has a the following part number on the diff housing: 129-351-05-05 and the carrier: 126-350-09-23
Thats from the one on my garage floor |
I am going to try & get a picture of what I saw - it definately had a W123 part number on the housing...
Now I really need to know what it is I was looking at on this E500. Thank you for the info. |
