86/560SEL front strut removal
Can anyone help with the procedure to remove the outer 12 pt 10 mm bolt holding the lower strut bracket??? I broke the inner bolt loose but I cant figure out how to get at the outer bolt.
Do I have to remove the caliper and the rotor to get at this bolt??? TIA. |
Strut? Can you provide a more of a description of this part?

front strut
The front strut i am referring to is the front shock insert. It is bolted to the lower suspsension by two 10mm 12 pt bolts and held above by two 19mm bolts to the chasis frame. There is an inner 10mm bolt (I was able to get at ok) and an outer which is very hard to get at.

In this forum, that item is commonly refered to as a shock absorber. A strut would be something a 190E has -- a shock absorber within a structure that includes the spring. It's a semantic thing.
To get to those bolts, turn the wheels all the way left or right for better access. You shouldn't have to remove the calipers or anything else. I hope that works. Sixto 91 300SE 81 300SD |
