Interesting visit at the junk yard

I was in the office when coming across an ad of a car wrecker advertising a Mercedes car exactly the same model year like mine, even in the same color.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/pts/1084195915.html

I thought I'd hit the mother lode and went instantly to the junk yard.
After 1 and 1/2 hour of labor, ruining my best office attire and my finger nails I pulled out following parts, all in good condition:

instrument cluster, what I just in dire need of
1 head light assembly (right)
2 tail lights
3 electronic modules in the relay box
2 sun visors

and some small parts like car jack, spark plug wires, first-aid kit, connectors, gas cap etc.

The awakening came at the register, they wanted $1415.- altogether. First I thought I was not hearing right then they showed me the monitor screen displaying the prices:

$192.- instrument cluster
$252.- head light assembly
$198.- 2 tail lights
$594.- 3 electronic modules in the relay box
$86.- 2 sun visors

the rest for the small parts.

Of course I went out empty-handed, would not think of paying such high prices from a junk yard, they are even more expensive than on ebay. I did offer $600.- but got no deal.

In the end I have worked almost 2 hours for them, removing the parts http://www.benzworld.org/forums/imag...lies/smile.gif
My bad that I did not ask about their prices beforehand. I had thought to get the parts for less than 100 bucks each. I don't think that I would go to junk yards again soon. It's not worth the time and effort.

wow, what a joke.. I think at my yards I'd get all that for pennies, Hell I got all the burlwood from a 560SEL in mint shape plus a roll top box for like $20

jim16671836 04-01-2009 11:31 PM

About $120

You can get those parts for around 120 dollars or less at a normal pull a part yard. Pullapart(they have about 15 yards from OH, IN, KY, TN, AL, GA, NC and Louisiana). They are a little higher but still would be under $150 dollars.

That is a perfect example where the sum of the parts are worth more than the car.

This is why my XJS (former show winner) is slowly being taken apart as I get requests for parts.

I am already way ahead than I would have been selling the car complete.

Yeah they would offer $2000.- at most for my perfectly running car :)

holy crap man! I went to pick n pull saturday and got 2 leather seats, two sun visors, one floor mat, one acc pbu, one rearview mirror and an excellent piece of wood for 104 with tax and environmental fees. instrument clusters are only 20 bucks. Most things are cheap but they tried to charge me 60 bones for a 20 yr old electric fan, so i did walk out empty handed that day.

To be correct they don't call themselves junk yard but auto dismantler.

theres a place here called all bimmers and benzes, and they do charge way higher prices than the junkyards. even though they are a junkyard too. I didnt look at your link first to see it was a w210. you will not find those in pick n pull in san antonio. You are limited to a wide variety of w126 and w123 mostly. I have come across some intersting ones though. I have seen a manual trans w126, lots of euro cars including one w126 that had crank and manual everything, velour seats and a nasty green color. ive even seen a c126 500sec amg! too bad the po tool lousy care of it.

I paid $252 for a pair of in great shape euro headlamp assemblies for my 116!!
Those are some ridiculous prices.

Thank the Dieties for the PNP

If they ever discover GP's website we're done for!

I Swear my best was a Hirschmann 6000EL for $12.00 USD

I wonder if they do that to everyone that pulls the parts before asking the prices.

Yea. Its like free labor! And they know your going to be more careful removing them because you care about the part. Pretty clever!
