560 rear end height adj?
 

Hi Guys,

...new to yr forum - it is superfontastic!

I've done extensive searches on the SLS system of the 560's - to no avail. I would like to learn how to adjust the rear-end for increased height to combat the annoying sagging - there are no leaks in the system - although the left rear is sagging more @ 1 cm than the right.
In any event I would like to see if I can raise the rear to at least bring the car up to level again. Id say the rear-end is currently 1 cm lower than the front.

The 500 SE had new air-cells put in last week - it is back to magic-carpet ride status again. Also, its rear-end seems to sit about 1 cm higher than the front which is great. It really makes it drive better with a slightly raked forward stance.

FWIW, the 500 sits about 3cm higher at the rear than the 560.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Leveling system is designed to compensate for extra weight in the rear.

If your car sags w/o having any extra weight? Then the rear springs are the real problem.

You should be able to make the system compensate for the rear sag by shortening the leveling rod at the rear anti-sway bar.

Of course that puts extra stress on the leveling system.

I went and did just that - there was only 2-3mm of adjustment left.
Took it for a long drive and the difference was notable - I could feel the rear end has lifted and it feels great. The rear suspension is till very compliant so I think the air cells are still good. I am now also convinced that indeed the springs need replacing. The left rear still bump/thumps but has also lifted.
Back home I could see the rear-end has lifted noticeably - to the point where I am satisfied. The new stance is so much better and makes it look 'fresher'

when the air cells were bad and the car thumped down the road,the bracket that is clamped to the rear sway bar moved and so when you replaced them the level was lower.i see this all the time when i do this repair.you can get your adjustment back by moving that clamp on the sway bay.

BTW, the 560 has never had replacement air cells - at least I don't see it anywhere in the service receipts and the PO is by no means the DIY type.
