Help with 92 400E sunroof/window problems
Hello All,
I've had intermittent problems with my 1992 400E sunroof and windows not working. As of late, they worked for almost 6 months without a problem until yesterday when they quit and will not work after the customary 2 or 3 restarts of the car, or a half hour or so of running. As I don't have much time now, I was only able to take the back seat out so I could hear if the relays were working. The ones for the windows do click, the one for the sunroof doesn't. While reading posts in hopes of finding out myself, and not having to bother you all, who are always so helpful, if I can just manually close the sunroof, as this time of the year in Washington State is no time for it to be open. I did read that it seems possible, but the post did not tell me what I need to know, which is: Where is the sunroof motor located, what does it look like if that is important, and how can I manually close it. Thank you all. Bof |

If the 400E is anything like my 1990 300e then the sunroof manual crank is in the trunk, on the drivers side, near the shock tower, and their should be a manual crank in with the tool set. Exact location is in the owners manual if you have it.
I had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago, and it occured after disconnecting the battery for a stereo install. It might be a convience relay, I went out and bought a new part/relay, and before I got it installed, everything started working fine and has ever since. But check all your fuses as well. |

1992 400E sunroof problem
Thanks Addbhp,
I will look for the motor where you suggest. As it turns out, I did check the relay and there is no voltage between, I think I remember it as 6 and 3, but whatever, there was voltage between 2 of the relay points but none between the third one that is supposed to have power, so when I get more time I will investigate further. Thanks again, your help is greatly appreciated. Bof |

Before you get too panicked, hold the key in the lock position in the driver's door for 10seconds or so and see if that will close the sunroof and windows.
