SEC hood question

Are all SEC hoods Aluminum? If I find a SEL with a SEC type hood in the yard, does it mean it was switched or is there an SEL hood similar to the SEC hood? If so would that one be steel?

Thanx

I wasn't aware any of them were steel. What I can assure you of is that the SEL and SEC hoods won't interchange. If an SEL hood looks like an SEC hood it is probably an aftermarket grille insert with the big center star in it. I've never heard or realized the SEC hood is aluminum..........weighs a frickin TON I know that!

All SEC hoods are aluminum, all SEL hoods are steel.

300SD's have aluminum hoods

I have seen several SEL with the wide style grill insert, I assumed they were SEC hoods. Is there a SEL hood with a wide, but different width grill insert? this is confusing because I have seen 2 SEL's with wide grill inserts.

Both the hood and trunk lid on mine are aluminum. I didn't realize that until I tried to stick something magnetic on them. The front ends of SECs are definitely not interchangeable wth SEs and SELs.

hey, how is the front bumper? I want an SEC front bumper

dee8go, the SEC front will go onto the SEL body, it just requires everything, fenders, hood, lights, and a bumper to do it right.

The SEC bumper can go onto the SEL, its just a matter of bolting it on

Well, that's what I meant. Unless you're willing to change everything on the front, it won't.

The SEC aluminum hood is the single most expensive body part on the entire vehicle.

New factory Mercedes Benz replacements cost several thousands of dollars.

Speaking of body parts, what would seem to be a reasonable price for two new rear quarter panels?
