190E just died...will not Start

I have a 1993, 190E that started, went down the road 100 yards and then just quit. It turns over fine, but will not fire. It will not fire with even Starter fluid. The plugs are getting fire.... I am lost at this point, and am hoping for some help. The only other thing that comes to mind, as it seems to have been harder to start over the last few month's. It is also not outside temp issue...it was 70 degrees that day and car had set for 8 hours at work when it started the last time. The car never got up to operating temp. thanks

Well, the engine, like all engines, need 3 basic things: fuel, spark and compression (plus in the right order). The engine isn't trying to kick opn ether, so I would assume (ahem) that either no spark (which you say you have), no compression (THAT would be bad), OR the spark isn't happening at the correct time, perhaps a jumped timing chain??

Have you checked out the crankshaft position sensor?

Sometimes those buggers just go out.

Consider the fuel pump relay..that is a typical symptom...have had them just "quit" several times on different model 190's. Car wills top dead and not refire..had at least three go bad. I think if the CPS is gone you would have no spark as this controls the timing...or at least erratic firing. If the fuel pump relay is bad you will get no pump whine...try turning the ignition to the "on" position without engaging the starter..if no pump whine...likely the FPR. (I think that year had twin fuel pumps, so unlikely they both went south)

Since you have spark, it sounds like your fuel pumps aren't operating. Did you pull a spark plug to see if it's wet with fuel? Also, before you go putting money into parts check the vacuum hoses, especially the ones going to and from the Idle Control Valve. They have to be securely connected for the engine to run.

When you turn the ignition on you should hear the fuel pumps operate for a second or two. If your Fuel Pump Relay is defective, you can remove the fuel pump relay and put a jumper across pins 7 & 8 and the fuel pumps should operate and the engine should start.

It's not fuel related guys, or it would at least try running on the ether.....
