Towing a boat.

Has anyone out there ever towed a small boat with an E-320 station Wagon?

I cannot find any info on this subject anywhere. The boat will be in the 1500 lb range.

Thanks in advance.

I towed a mid-sized #1,000 lb. U-Haul compartmented with an 800 lb. Cub Cadet lawn tractor enclosed and attachments halfway across the country with a 300SD with 100K miles on it.

Went fine, just accelerate with patience, and do not overload/underload the tongue weight. Use your head and drive 60 mph or so.

No problem. Most hitches are rated only 2,000 lbs.

According to the MB CD, my 300TE requires an auxiliary transmission fluid cooler to be installed for load over 1500KG

1500KG = 3307Lbs.

You'll be fine ;)

Owner's Manual

Will dictate to you the Maximum Tongue Weight(AT The Ball hitch) allowed.
Do Not Exceed !

The wagon's are well suited to towing since they have the self leveling suspension. If you have a good hitch installed, the E320 should pull a 1500lb boat no problem.

I have towed a 2200 lb boat with my 94 E320 Wagon. It's doabale, but probably at the limit of what common sense dictates. We store our boat about 1 mile from the ramp, most towing is 25 mph or less, we use the wagon to put in and haul out. Twice a year, I tow about 50 miles to/from winter storage. The 50 mile tow at 60 mph is also doable but not something I would want to do frequently.
