clutch bleed problem

After installing a new clutch in my 1980 240D I went to bleed the clutch hydraulics but the pedal was on the floor. I can’t get any pressure to bleed the system. I noticed when I opened the line to remove the transmission the fluid just poured out. Also a few weeks ago my wife said when she went to leave in the morning she put the clutch in and the pedal went to the floor and she had to hook it with her toe and pull it back up. I did not think much of it then but now I think they may be related.
Any ideas?

You need to check the master cylinder under the dash for signs of leaks/seeps.

Also, a good trick is to use a pump bottle and bleed from the bottom up.

Hook a line from one of the front brake calipers bleed screws to the slave cylinder bleed screw and pump the brakes to force fluid into the clutch system. If problem of clutch pedal going to floor persists, you have to rebuild the clutch master cylinder.
