Bosch Evolution wiper for 300E?

Hi,

Looks like Bosch has a symmetric version of their new design wiper blade called the Evolution that works on MB MonoWipers and wagon rear wipers. (Original asymmetric version was called Icon.) Good price at Amazon.com (and free shipping of you order more than $25).

Has anyone tried these?

I tried the Icon, it skipped the upper corners of the windshield, couldn't conform to the curve. Also, it tore at the bottom. Trashed it after three weeks. Back to the basic Bosch, works best on my 124s IMO.

The Icon was not listed for the W124 that I ever saw by Bosch. The Evolution is different.
Has anyone tried the Evolution on a Mono Wiper?

thanks

Riiight. But you stated it was essentially a symmetrical ICON, so I responded with my experience. The ICON was recommended in the Bosch guide, for my 124s. It is asymmetrical, the body is the same for either side. If the Evolution is the same one-piece body, I don't see any way that it will be more flexible than the asymmetrical version and will then miss the same areas of the windshield, and tear, the same as the ICON.

The OE / Bosch wiper works fine.

ah I see ok thanks.

I do prefer the old style of Bosch or SWF (Valeo) inserts that use the old metal ribs inside. These are now hard to find ... but obtainable

babymog 04-21-2009 08:51 PM

The metal ribs instead of the stamping? I'd like to find those.

I think they have them here -- I got mine from BuyMBParts last year.

I just use the mid-range bosch blade assembly from Autozone....(Made in Belgium)....and it works pretty well, not "incredible"....but more than adequate.

I used those one-piece blades on my W126, and they stink. I went back to the normal Bosch on that car too.

My biggest concern is to try and get my W124 wiper assembly apart and grease it up real good sometime soon.

pawoSD,

I spray my shaft down real nice with pure Silicone Spray once in a while. A dealer did this for me years ago. it works well and last a year or so. I di it while operating a bit so it works into the inside.

does not lube gears I know but ...

I am very careful not to get any anywhere -- I put rags down under everything.

I tried the Evolution, but like the Icon tried by babymog it did not conform to the windshield curve. I took it out of the store, put it on, and I could see right away that it would not work. Took it back and got a conventional wiper.

Searching for a reasonable solution

Curious to hear your results. I've tried most "conventional" blades and none do a good job of cleaning entire window wiper "sweep" area consistently forward and return. NOTE I have a wagon and maybe a "wagons" windshield shape is slightly different than the sedans and the MB designers felt it wasn't worth the expense to compensate for 20% of the model run.

PS Invested in outrageously expensive Valeo for daughter's 2004 Saab 9.3. They clean wonderfully forward, but not so good on return. Maybe the windshield designers should consult with the wiper designers??? Or is there a secret pact [mfg - vendor - dealer] to provide special version only available through dealership. Like they care >>> I don't think so....

Bob Weir,
I see the page sponsor carries Bosch wiper blade inserts (Metal) .
Second set of Pictograms is vendor who carries entire wiper assembly.
(I've always been told to use entire wiper assembly)

Inserts have always been great for me. They worked great on my car in 1986 and still do -- I was just trying to see if the new stuff is better.

I believe Wagon windshield is same as sedan -- the roof-line is about an inch taller on the wagon though.

I have had mine not fit the windshield well either and I 'tuned' the metal ribs and has been great ever since. My ribs were bent too much away from the glass (the center touching and the ends curved up) -- this is the way they worked best on flat glass -- on a VW Bug for example. I have found on the ginormous MB Mono the opposite is best -- curve the metal ribs to just about match the glass curve.

Finally, no product on windsheild!!!! You want the rain water to 'sheet' and it does that best on pure clean glass. RainX is ****e and creates a zillion beads which refract and is a real problem at night. Not to mention is eventually makes a huge mess with the graphite impregnated wiper rubber such as Bosch. Even car wash wax can be a problem.

Keep it clean. Use Invisible Glass. Strip it with Acetone or smooth GoJo if you have to or even a glass stripper like this stuff ** http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-GS8-12-Touch-Glass-Stripper/dp/B000COBXFU ** if you have to. Results are great.
On side and rear windows I use Nu Finish wax as a bit off beading there can help.

I also use BON AMI, its a glass safe pumice cleanser. I made the mistake of Rainx washer fluid in my truck. Cannot wait for that tank to be empty. Also, I use Summer FIT from the dealer. One tube usually lasts 2 gallons of washer fluid. It really does a great job on road grime and helps the sheeting action.
