So when do I pitch my Valeo radiator ?
I have heard that those rads will leak antifreeze into the tranny causing "issues". Don't really want to wait for that to happen, so,,, when should you take prevenative measures and replace it ? Or,,, you could probably just bypass the cooler and add an auxillary cooler up front. Any thoughts ?

I've never been a fan of integrated trans coolers. IMHO, they should be separate.
If you do decide to add a separate cooler, you must be very careful to make sure it has enough surface area as well as sufficient air flow. I discussed this with a mechanic once, in regards to my old school bus. One thing he pointed out is that the coolant in the radiator keeps the trans fluid from overcooling, which could be an issue in very cold climates. I don't really know, but those are things definitely worth considering. |
Hi Pete, the vehicles listed in your signature don't include any of the affected models. Do you have another car?

The "bad" Valeo radiators seem to be in W203/W211 & C209 cars from 04/2002 to 08/2003.
