Secondary Air Pump on AMG`s

I have a SL55. 2005. 57K Miles.

The other day I heard the Secondary Air Pump was still on when
I shut the car off. Drove it again quickly and thats the last I heard it.
Well now I have the P0410 CEL Error. Looks lke the 40A Fuse is OK
and the Relay that was replaced in the Recall in June 06 Meters out OK.
I am not hearing the pump at start up. Cleared the light. But it came back
within a couple trips.

Question is. I know this Secondary Air system was recalled
Recall 2006-030011 and the fix was the ECU flash and relay.
Now it appears my car has done exactly what the recall was to
prevent. The Secondary Air Pump staying on and burning out.

Trying to get my Dealer to respond but my SA thats been there for 5 years is suddenly "No Longer Works Here".

I know these AMG specific airpumps are expensive. But I would think this should be covered under goodwill warranty with the recall.

Anybody with first hand experience on the AMG Secondary Airpump
issue. ???

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the new relay IS the problem. If the dealer won't make the effort, contact MBUSA & be as sweet as honey as you explain the issue to them!

I'll bet they replaced the wrong relay when they did the Recall Campaign. I've seen it happen before. The relay configuration for AMG vehicles is slightly different than that of non-AMG cars. When this Campaign first came out, we would activate the AIR pump with SDS, then pull the relay while the pump was running. When the pump shut off, we knew we changed the right relay.

Looks like the same relay P/N thats on the Recall Work Order.
002-542-66-19-05

The Relay itself is marked 002-542-66-19. Brown in Color.
Guess it may be worth just buying the Relay and taking a shot.

Going to take the car down and see if I can find a new SA.
Mine took a new job about 100 miles away.

Your problem may be covered by the 8yr./80K emissions warranty. Have your new SA check it out, or better yet, call MBUSA and ask them. Either way, I think you're definitely qualified for some post-warranty assistance. Let us know how it works out.
