Bleeding fuel system, besides primer pump.
 

Is there any way to bleed the fuel system besides the cheap, broken primer pump? did i mention mine is broken? i was planning on changing my fuel filters and also just in case i run out of gas sometime. it is 300D diesel.

Best bet in a run-out situation is to have a working primer pump.
In either case (a run-out or repl. filters) remove the main filter and fill it with fuel (need a wrench to remove the filter) then with an assistant cranking the engine (30-45 seconds at a time) loosen up the injector lines and retighten one at a time, you will see foamy Diesel fuel coming from between the line and fitting, this is the air coming out. What I mean is loosen #1, let some froth come out, tighten it, go on to #2, loosen it, froth, tighten it, go on from there. Try to be quick, you don't want to crank much more than 30-45 seconds, bad for the starter and wears down the battery. Eventually it'll kick over, keep doing it (bleeding air)til it runs smooth, well, you know, for a Diesel. 'Bout normal, you know what I mean.

Thanks Gilly, jeez that sounds like a real ordeal i think i'd better invest a few bucks on a replacement primer pump. I will definitely keep the alternative bleeding method in mind for emergencies. thanks.

No problem. BTW, the loosening is done typically on the injector side of the line, never tryed it on the pump end. It's kind of neat to try loosening the line just ever so slightly on a good running engine how that cylinder starts to miss just like a gas engine with the plug wire removed. Very sensitive to this pressure being equal.
Also what I meant about being fast and only cranking for 30-45 seconds is that the cranking should stop after that time period, wait for maybe about a minute, then you can try again for about 30 seconds. It's not like you have to have it running in 30-45 seconds "or else". This procedure may be needed, or at least may help, in the case of a run-out, although you could also do it with the primer pump if it were working, but hey, that's no fun!
