Fuel Injected or Carburetor

My 190E starts up just like it's fuel injected but my parents swear they saw carburetor. Which is it?

The "E" in 190E denotes fuel injection. All 190-model Mercedes sold new in the U.S. had fuel injection.

MB stopped using carburetors in about 1978 -- the last one was on a 280 six (four barrel Solex) or 230 (sidedraft Stromburg). All gasline engines since are fuel injected.

What looks like a carburetor is the fuel distributor -- it has a plate in a venturi (hole) inside the air filter housing that looks kinda like a choke plate.

I saw a 190E having a top-overhaul in the workshop today and thought of you.

Had a good look at the engine and the fuel distributor while admiring the interior and thinking how compact it is compared to the 126.
