You can leave the sensor plugged in..just slide the white terminal covers back to expose the connectors and jumper across those two connections..

Key ON

and does the engine need to be running. because i thought that fan was powered by the serpentine belt

the ones I wanted you to jumper was for the low fan ..the electric fan in front of the radiator.

http://catalog.peachparts.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=1986-Mercedes--Benz-190e--.3--16-Climate--Control&yearid=1986%40%401986&makeid=63%40%40MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40X&modelid=6127%3AMBC%7C1487%3AED%7C10000008%3ASM%7C848%40%40190E+2%2E3%2D16&catid=242213%40%40Climate+Control&subcatid=242240@@A%2FC+Temp%2E+Switch&mode=PA

See the terminal connectors at the end of the pigtail wires ???? ..slide the insulator sleeves back and jumper across the connectors..does that get you LOW Electric Fan????????????

You don't disconnect nothing...you slide the insulator sleeves back so you can expose the connectors and jump across there with a screwdriver ..or wire ..or a fork....anything.
and when you do , does the low elect fan come ON ???

i do not have the said white insulators. it shows in my pictures.

what i did do was disconnect the two marked connections and bridged them with a nail, key ON.

nothing

Greg, This is easier than you're making it. You probably do have the white insulator sleeves, they're just out of the frame of the photo you posted. Follow the two wires coming off the red component (that's the high pressure switch that's part of the auxiliary fan circuit). At the ends of those 2 wires, they connect to another set of 2 wires. The ends of each of those sets of wires are supposed to be enclosed in insulator sleeves. See my photo below. If the sleeves are not covering them, they may just have broken or been removed over the years. With key ON, engine OFF, jump the brown/blue wire to the solid brown wire, and the fans will come on. That's the test you've been asked to try and post back results. If those are the 2 wires you bridged and the fan did not come on, then there is a problem. On the other hand, if you bridged the 2 wires coming off the switch itself (a brown/white and a brown/black wire), that's not correct, and the fan wouldn't come on doing that. Try again and post results. If still no fan, then you can get additional guidance on what steps to take next.

Okkkkk.....now go back to post 11 and read it.

You can now jumper those leads for low fan and see if that added airflow solves your over-heat condition..it is just a TEST..and those test results will aide in arrivinmg at a proper diagnosis.

finally found the time this weekend to bridge those leads with wire and electrical tape. fan is now on all the time.

but ive run into another problem. all my electrical gauges went dead. oil pressure, water temp, fuel level, oil temp, alternator, and timer all don't work. they are all run off the same fuse so i checked the fuse and its still good.

Spin the fuse in it's holder..

did the added air-flow help the heat problem?

that worked like a charm. the engine doesn't even reach 80 degrees C on my drive to school.

what does this mean.

The fuses get corrosion on the ends and they loose contact.... and spinning them cleans them off

so the hot wiring of the fan keeps the engine cool. what does this mean.

and how do i check if the magnetic clutch fan is working or not.

It means you most likely do not have a coolant flow problem, but you likely have an airflow problem.
See if you can hear the fan mag click in when you jumper that red sensor..motor not running...key ON
