Tach Dead, Fuel Gauge Issues

Gsxr is helping me with these problems on my 300D (1993) but I want to share what I am doing to see if anyone else has any experience with this.

I think my flywheel sensor is good. At idle I get 12.5 VAC and when I increase engine speed the voltage increases.

I recollect seeing a test for the OVP, which I will do since if faulty it can affect the Tach, but since my A/C works just fine I bet it will test OK.

I am having some issues with my fuel gauge too. Using the MB test procedure I measure 50 Ohms at the gas tank, and 50 ohms at the instrument cluster connection. The tank is little over half full and when you interpolate between the MB acceptable full and empty resistance values at half full the resistance should be near 43.7 ohms.

When I removed the cluster from the dash though I noticed the gauge read spot on. When I put it back into the dash it went spastic. That's when I noticed I could gently push on the back side of the cluster near the fuel gauge and watch it go wonky. No pressure, gauge fine, pressure, wonky readings. Must have a loose connection or cracked solder joint in there. So for now I gave the instrument panel installed not so tightly in the dash and it seems to be reading the fuel level fine.

At some point I'll have to get the cluster rebuilt and maybe they will be able to fix the tach too (if the OVP is OK that is). Can you re solder the fuel gauge yourself or it best left up to a professional?

Thanks.

Since the a/c works there must be a TD signal. Also if there wasn't that signal the idle would be low.

Sounds like a small split in the printed circuit board.

That's what I am hoping for.
