80 bucks for a badge???

I went to a MB dealership trying to locate an AMG badge for my trunklid and was quoted a price of $75 and with that, I tried my local shop where I got my AMG wheels from thinking they would be cheaper.Sike... they want $80 (mind you this is worth about 50 cents of plastic with adhesive to stick on the lid). I'm also trying to locate the V8 (similar to the V12's) badge that looks pretty cool. Does anyone know where I might find something like this for a REASONABLE price because I damn near bit the bullet and purchased it but I KNOW someone has this for less than this ridiculous price. Thanks guys

Try the Parts Shop. Phil quoted me $20 for series designation badges (i.e. E500, 300SL, etc.) He might have the AMG badges as well. If he doesn't have it in stock, I'm sure he can source it.

Otherwise, you might want to look into ebay. I'm not sure whether they are original or not (probably not) but they're going for like $5 or $10 or so. Email the seller to be sure.

Good luck!

I personally think it's cheesy to put a "fake" AMG badge on a car that's not a true AMG model -- if you have AMG wheels, they already carry the AMG badge -- you shouldn't need to advertise on the trunk what sort of wheels you're running, which is pretty obvious by just looking at them.

I think I paid $27 US for the old style AMG rear badge from a early-mid 90's car from my dealer...I think the new style chrome ones are more but $80 is robbery for any stick on badge...period. You'd be better served to e-mail AMG and request one saying your old one fell off or something like that. Try it out.

Call Gaston at autoclass 305-668-8666, tell him Harold sent ya and you'll have it for $50

BTW, If you got real amg stuff, buy the badge. That topic has been used and abused.

Thanks guys! I think that there are a lot of "cheezy" things IMO but I always figure ''to each his own" I guess that's why it's called "customizing" or "personalizing" ones vehicle to his or her own tastes.I also give people credit for their individuality as far as what they put into "making" what they want to the best of their ability e.g. rainmaker,Satish and so many others.Sure, we know it isn't "real" but if you see what these two examples have done to get their cars to where THEY wanted them to be makes it all REAL because they put in the blood sweat and tears to get to their final destination. I'm willing to bet that anyone who was offered the chance to own a "replica" if you will of a $500k car for example, for $10k ,they'd drive the hell out of it with no problem and if some bimbo even THOUGHT you paid that much for it and wanted to go home with you just from meeting you at a stoplight you'd let her bite it and would probably invest in a "fake" rolex to complete the deal Don't get me wrong because I'm not mad or anything,I just found it humorous when some who holler "real this, and real that" miss the picture sometimes.Hell, I've got european lights but its not "really" european,I've got clear corners but its not "really" the way its supposed to be in the US,etc:p But I do respect your opinion so thanks! Oh by the way,I've only had 2 ''real'' AMG's but they were REAL ...I'll try not to be cheezy again but probably will end up cheezy again because I also use 19 inch and 20 inch wheel/tire combos that someone will find cheezy so I confess

To each his own!
I would not put badges (in fact I have considered debadging my E420 entirely: I'm not sure it is anyone's business what the size of my engine is), but I don't understand what is so mythical about AMG. I have seen cars with some Brabus parts (but probably not engine conversion) put a Brabus emblem - thought it was ok.
I suppose the only difference is that Mercedes now acquired AMG. WOuld it have been as frowned upon to put on an AMG badge 10 years ago?

Well spoken gentlemen! I don't think its really a question of jealousy or anything, but I just wanted to add that it wasn't a BIG deal that I have to have an AMG badge on the car but just something different. Yea, I considered Braubus and even RennTech but figured those would be even harder to get IN TOWN and AMG was a quick fix...I think there's a classy way and a really "cheezy" way to personalize one's car (like when I see people with cutlass' or something WAY out have a CADILLAC badge on the car and around the key locks) but again I always come back to each his own because its "his" or "hers" and whatever floats their boat float "their" boat. Anyway that's my 2 extra cents although I really wanted to find out where to get my hands on the V-8 badge (like the V-12) moreso than the AMG but it seems that there's always been a big controversy with the AMG badging.Which brings me back to the original question: Anyone know where the V-8 badge can be found at a decent price??

Not to stir the pot, but I would differentiate putting larger wheels/tires, body part add-ons, interior/stereo changes, suspension or engine mods, etc. (all of which I see as perfectly legitimate personalizing or customizing a car to one's own tastes and pleasure) from sticking on a fake badge which implies the car is something that it is not [you don't see AMG themselves putting their badge on anything other than cars they have produced -- and certainly not on cars that only have AMG wheels or body kits that you can buy from anyone]. What do you think Hans Werner Aufrecht's reaction would be?

Put another way, the badge is a form of communication -- what are you trying to say [or what do you want others to think]? Would you sew a Gucci label on a non-Gucci jacket (for instance, to advertise you are wearing Gucci shoes)? To me, it just says "poseur", but I guess everyone's free to strike whatever pose they want.

C43amg - I suppose it is true that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
