Hesitation in 1994 C220.
A good friend of mine has a '94 C220 that has been acting up lately. It has a slight hesitation when you initially step on the gas. The idle almost seems to flutter like it is missing. The car has decent power after it gets over about 3000rpm. The plugs have been changed to try and remedy the problem but to no avail. Is there anything else I should check? The OVP has been replaced about 1 year ago to cure a stalling problem while driving.

Very common problems are spark plug wire ends, spark plug wires shorting to ground and air leaks!

What about Spark Plug Wires? These are recommended to be changed every 100k MILES. Only about $100 for OEM plug wires. Also try the fuel filter.

The spark plug ends that go onto the spark plug itself are brown in colour and are very brittle. Is it possible that just the ends are causing this? Thanks for the prompt replies.

I have heard that that is the main reason for replacement of the wires, because of the ends. Or so I HAVE HEARD.

Thanks to everyone that responded.
The problem was the wires. I replaced them and now the car runs perfect.
Thanks again, Steve |
