Central locking

On my 1999 w202 when I lock the car the front lights do not flash. When I unlock The car front and back flash. If I unlock and continue hold ing the button no responce (all windows do not open). I have checked all the fuses and all appear OK. Where do I go from here??? Is there a relay that could be the problem, located where?

Do the rear lights flash? Does the car actually lock?

Whenever you're diagnosing central locking problems, it's a good idea to see if your spare key works.

rear lights flash, doors lock with the fob. Both lights flash when I unlock with the fob. The spare key works the same as the every day key. The switch on the console does not work either!

Alright, it sounds like you may have two separate issues.

First, the car locks and unlocks, but the front lights don't flash when locking?

Second, the convenience opening/closing feature (windows and sunroof) doesn't work.

Is this right???

Right on both counts

There are several different components involved in the RF locking system. The component responsible for flashing the lights is the front SAM. It's kind of like a "smart" fuse box. I think you should try dis-connecting the vehicle battery before you go any further. This will perform a "hard re-set" of all the electronics. This can sometimes restore functionality to mis-behaving computers.

That appeared to solve the problem, Thanks a million.

I'm glad it worked out for you. You'd be amazed at the types of wierd electrical problems that can be solved this way. :)
