300ce speedometer 220kmh

Hi everyone

Just wondering were 300ce produced with 220kmh speedometers? I would imagine they would be 240kmh given that the top speed of the 300ce is over 220kmh

I have seen a 300ce with a 220kmh speedometer (88 model) so this puzzles me.

I'd have to look at my '89 when I get back to the carpool lot tonight. All I know is that when I (on rare occasions) hit around 170kmh, I back off after short order. Car is as stable and competent as one could ask. Might be due to larger wheels/tires, Sportline bars and Bilstein HD shocks, but I imagine how much I'd have to pay for a speeding ticket and how much my insurance would go up, so I back off pretty quickly.

I have a 91 300CE, and my speedometer goes up to 260kmh...It's an M104 engine...I totally agree about that sportline package, mine is very smooth and stable up to the fastest speeds I'll ever drive...I've had her up over 120mph, but it scared the s#*t out of me...ha

my concern lies that the speedometer cluster is not original as the max reading on the speedometer is 220kmh. unusual for a car that is clearly capable of exceeding that speed. i thought 220 speedometers were usually for the lower end 4 cylinder cars like the 200E or diesel variants.

this appears in a 300ce 1988 model with the straight 6 (113 engine) i believe.

Again, mine is a 1989 model, and as far as I know, there are no differences between the first year of production (your '88) and the '89. The engine is designated as M103. Never heard of the 113. My speedometer (U.S. model) goes up to 160 mph which is the same as 260 kph (257.5 actually). The 260 kph label is not printed on the card as it would interfere with the odometer "hole". The last printed kph marking is 240.
