Storing Transmission/Motor

Just bought a '93 S320 to be parted out (listed in the Parts section). http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-used-parts-sale-wanted/254903-parting-93-s320-houston-tx.html

I'm going to keep the transmission, as it's a recent factory rebuild, and maybe the motor (which has 160K miles) for future needs. My '92 S320 engine and transmission are fine now. I intend to keep the car for quite some time, and I'll need to store the engine and transmission for a while.

I "think" I know what to do with the motor for storage, here's what I think:
  1. All water out of the cooling system. Plug all cooling ports with something to discourage insects.
  2. Change the oil and rotate motor enough to get new oil pumped throughout engine.
  3. Oil into cylinders via spark plug holes.
If I keep the motor, it will probably be in storage for several years. I'm thinking it might even be worth it to completely fill the motor with oil, or something to discourage rust and further degradation - if it wouldn't just gradually leak out.

What I'm not sure about is the transmission. What do I do to store the tranny, other than the same thing of protecting it from insects like mud dobbers.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Home Depot sells rolls of what I would describe as giant rolls of "saran wrap" they wrap pallets and things I wrapped a lot of stuff I have in storage.

Fill the transmission with fresh ATF, right to the top, keeps the seals wet.
