C.,
This may help. 220 is chassis 187.011 -'51-54 w/eng 180.920 220a is 180.010- '54-56 w/eng 180.921' So..... SB's 219 is a 105.010 with a 180.921 eng. [ 55-59 vintage] That is the same eng as the 220a used, so check your chassis #. |
Actually, I have most of the car...which is an interesting story.
The car came to us about twelve years ago. It was owned by an airline pilot stationed in South America. The car had 55k on it and was totally virgin except for a froze motor and dead paint from sitting in under trees for years. He wanted to totally restore the mechanicals and the paint. We pulled the motor and he took the body to a paint shop. We totally rebuilt the motor with new pistons. The motor sat a while until the body was painted. It was brought to us without lights, bumpers, window trim. The car was assembled and he went to take it to the body shop for final assembly, they had went out of business. He was never able to find the trim and never came back for the car. It still has only 55k on all the running gear and the motor has about ten miles on it. |
thanks guys, appreciate it
however, i researched for a long time... still coudn't figure it out what model is my car is... the previous owner said it was a 1955 220SE, but i checked it out, 220SE model are starts at 1956... and with totally different engine code or chasis code.
but i guess its a 220A import model. Mr.Morris said this model did not imported to america, hopefully he's true. but any official evidencec? here is the chasis code ... i barely see it's something 180 010 or 180 040... benz dun have any model of chasis 180 040 rite? so i guess its a 180 010, which my car is http://members.home.com/nekosound/code.JPG Ed. R: Thanks for so much infos. So i'll better call them soon, thanks alot budd. Athur: you sure is same engine? coz 220A is only 80 + a few more ponies, but that 219 has a 92HP engine. that's what i see at the Ponton's page http://www.kriesten.com/ponton/english.htm here is the link of info of my 220A? http://www.mbzponton.org/mbz59/pamphlet/miller/07_219.htm and here is the link of info of 219 my dad yesterday brought the entire engine and transmission system to his company's backyard to disect the engine into pieces, he is a mechanic for more than 30 years, and today he say all the piston are stuck, and one or two pistons are exceptional hard which seems like filled with tarmac, it won't move even u hammer it hard. so he just pull off the camshaft out and put it into a sink fill with disel fuel too, with the entire engine. sincce he can't think of no way to fix it... so he just put them into the disel tank continoue tries to lube it and see will it come back smooth. i think it's not the problem of the piston... just the engine's hole for the pistons are too rough and sticky. so there shouldn't have parts of this case... rite? i dunno... i'm not a mechanic... just a wild thought hehe mmm... i feel sorry to ask again =) haha but anyone have this experience before? or know how to solve it? |
It looks to me that you have a 220a.
From what I know [ am not a Round body guy],the engine is the same as the 219. [ same eng #]. The HP difference is in the head. One has a compression of 7.6-1, the other is 8.7-1. That explains the HP difference. [ there may be other small HP contributing changes, {cam-timing ,etc.} , but SBs engine will do that car very well.] The head ratio should be stamped on the head just above the gasket line, above the #2 plug. Maybe some other owner could add to this....... |
On the ponton discussion list a few weeks back someone identified a source in Europe (Holland, I think) that has new or little used ponton engines for sale. I recall that the 220a was mentioned as possibly available. No idea as to prices.
The 8,7 ratio was for markets with premium gas, like the US. The lower ratio wasd for other markets. |
