Buyer Beware
I might post pics later this week to back this up, but here goes:
I recently had the fuel pump go out on my 300SE. I bought the Bosch "OEM replacement." It's labeled Bosch on the part, everything. The guy at CarQuest said it was the only Bosch pump listed for my vehicle. So here's the thing - first off, the pump diameter itself is smaller. I didn't think much of this, but as time progressed I found this was the least of the problems. Second is that they changed the fitting specs for the bolt that runs between the fuel line and the pump. The diameter on the pump side is smaller by about 2mm. This means that I could not use the bolt from the original Bosch pump that was stuck in the line (I was eventually able to break it). This infuriated me. But here's the best part: Whatever moron at Bosch sitting at his CAD station with his thumb up his anus looking for something to do thought it would be a brilliant thing to round off the hex end of the bolt port on the fuel line side: this is the protrusion between the electrical terminals. On the old Bosch pump (the pump designed by rational individuals), the protrusion between the electrical terminals is a 19mm hex, thereby allowing you to torque the pump around the bolt to snug it up if necessary. On the new Bosch pump (the one designed by complete and utter ****ing IDIOTS), the port is completely rounded off save for two flattened sides on either side closest to the electrical terminals; but WORSE, it tapers toward the fuel line, giving you a nice gradual cone that you cant grip with anything. Because of this, I have to remove the entire goddamn pump to figure out some way of tightening up that bolt into the pump (due to a micro fissure causing fuel to lightly mist out of the mating surface under pressure)... GREAT ****ING MOVE, BOSCH. BRILLIANT. So just a word of advice; There is at least ONE total moron over at Bosch ****ing up their replacement parts. You might want to consider other brands. The absolute least I can say is, don't buy their ****ty replacement fuel pump. /end rant |

indeed a rant...but here's the first thing you did wrong...you bought the part from CarQuest...bad...secondly you didn't take the original part off and take it to CarQuest and make sure that it was an exact replacement and finally how the heck do you know the fuel pump is the problem anyway if you can't figure the first 2 issues out....see what I'm saying here? I would blame myself on this one if l personally such a bone headed thing...my fault....

so nobody is really getting this? what the hell is wrong with you guys? You MUST make sure that the parts fit....who the hell goes and buys new parts not knowing that it's the right part....what are you....kids?

Could be what has happened here....the earlier cars had only one fuel pump and the later cars had dual fuel pumps. The twin pumps are a bit smaller.
Sounds like maybe you got a later-design fuel pump.

that's wrong and dumb...take the goddamned fuel pump off and take it to the parts place and make absolutely sure it's the same part...how hard is that? come on...get with it...speculation gets you no where

If you look at this one
you can see an adapter to make the inlet smaller by about 2mm. It looks like this is a universal pump that would fit both applications. The other thing to watch out for at these autozoo type stores is this Is it a real Bosch part or a Chinese counterfeit? It could have been listed as the correct part on the box, but it might not even be a real Bosch part!
