'93 190E aux fan has mind of its own

Does anyone know why the auxiliary fans turn on and off intermittently, even when the a/c has been turned off and the temp is ~80*C? A/C blows cold, but sometimes blows warmer when I'm stopped at a stoplight. I'm hoping it's not the pushbutton unit in the dash that's the cause of this. It's almost as if a little leprechaun is flipping a switch turning the fans on and off just to annoy me. Anyone know what could be going on here?

Check the connector for a poor connection at the 2 wire blue sensor at thermo housing.
