My 190E story. fear and passion
I took over my partners 1992 190E 2.6 last year because I liked driving it. It still smells new at 173K. She was attached to this car and didn't want to sell it and had replaced the AC, radiator, and water pump. The car had been reliable and trouble free. Here's what I replaced recently with help of this forum, a MB cd, Haynes manual and the help of a rather mechanically minded and patient friend. Neither of us knew this stuff was needed. I knew it had an oil leak.
upper timing cover reseal with cam seal return PS hose, flush, and filter motor mounts transmission mount strut mounts tie rods with alignment brake pads and rotors fan bracket and idler pulley reseal dip stick tube reseal oil level sender repair R15 for aux fan If a shop had done all this it would be $$$$. I feel good about being able to do all this. It has become a FUN challenge although frusrtrating at times. Now I want to change the ATF with synthetic because I'm paranoid of tranny problems and I'm trying to prolong the tanny life. Can anything else need replacing? I'm wondering about the fan clutch. I just wanted to share this. The car drives awesome and I'm going to keep it for a long time |
