w140 A/C Pushbutton Unit Removal

The A/C Pushbutton unit on my '92 300SD (w140) is malfunctioning and I have ordered a rebuilt unit as a replacemnt.

I have replaced several A/C Pushbutton Units on 123 and 124 chasis cars, however, the center console on the w140 seems a bit of mystery for removal and access to the push button unit.

What is the best method for replacement of this unit?

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ralph

That is strange that the pushbutton unit is faulty.

To remove it, you will have to take out the center lower wood first. You will take off the ashtray, ashtray wood, the find the hidden bolts inside the compartment opened by ahstray wood removal. Then the lower wood will come out. Next the radio and the other retaining screws will have to come out. Then the upper wood.

Good luck.

Not really that strange that the pushbutton unit went out....mine went about 2 years ago......$1500 for a new one parts and labor at an MB dealer(warranty)....as I recall I think that was about 1.5 hours labor at $75.00 per hour
