95 C280; possible bad ignition coil?

My question is, if one of the coils goes bad, wouldn't it affect both the cylinder directly below it and the one it jumps to.

when I pulled the codes on my car it says #3 cylinder missing. The #3 cylinder jumps to the #4 cylinder. So if #3 coil is bad, shouldn't the #4 cylinder be missing to.

any advice on this matter would be great.
Thanks
Shawn

Not necesarily. I had the same engine and it only affected one cylinder that it was connected to.

Clear the codes. Move the coil and see if the miss moves.

yes, you are right, when I move the coil to another cylinder it starts missing on that cylinder.
Well at least I know where my problem is now.
Thanks for the help.
tomorrow I'll start looking for a coil.

Don't buy a coil if you moved the coil with the plug connector still attached.
It is the plug connector/resistor that is always FIRST suspect on 104/DIS ign system.

When moving coil, one MUST not move it with the connector b/c you have not isolated the fault as coil if you do.

If you did move coil ONLY, then your diagnosis is correct.

I only mention this b/c it is a very common mistaken diagnosis for a simple bad plug connector.. [ which are the cause of 80% of 104 mis-fire codes, along with Plats]

Thanks for all the advice, It would've been nice if it could've been the connector but in my case the miss-fire was on the cylinder that the coil was jumped to.
So it ended up being the coil itself. Always the most expensive option, lol.

But she's running fine now. Thanks again for all the help.

You're Welcome.

It is good to change just the 3 connectors under the coils when a plug change time comes around.
I have Tech friends who won't change plugs w/o doing the connectors b/c they know the faiure rate of those heat-trapped, cheapo designed spring connectors..................Notorious
