high co readings

Hello,
looking for some advice.
changed spark plugs, oil, o2 sensor and coolant temp sensor. Readings are still off the scale. No change since changing all the items minus the coolant temp sensor, changed that this pass saturday.
Taking it in today for another shot at it. If it does not pass what else can I do to get these numbers down?
I did drive it for over 30 minutes before the test, did not shutdown the engeine before the test.
This is a 93 400e with 112,000 miles on it.
I did notice on some starts there is some shoot which comes out of the exhaust on to the driveway.
The car runs fine milage has gone down some.
Last tune up was over 6k ago.

Thanks

Check the FP regulator vac hose port for fuel leak.

Any codes?

what brand of plugs? bosch plats have a problem with fouling VERY easily. always use the same plugs mb built the car with. otherwise, you might look at the caps, rotors and wires, possibly coils. low kv-not enough spark-from the coils or caused by the other parts will look like too much fuel. i'd be interested in seeing the actual numbers from the test. could be another number is off along with the high co. good luck, chuck.

Thanks for the info, I will look at the caps and rotors. Plugs are what the manufacture ordered. And no leaks at the FP regulator.

The" leaks " does not mean leaking around the Reg..they are a possible diaphragm leak inside, so the test is to check the vac line port for fuel w/vac line OFF and the car running at idle.. if fuel comes out that port with that test, the reg is allowing unmetered fuel into the intake and causing a rich condition of the a/f mix, thereby flunking the test.
Common failure.
Just so I am clear..

The air mass sensor accounts for 90%+ of the fuel mixture inputs.
Coolant temp sensor could also be allowing for excessive CO readings.

FP regulator check good, have cleaned the connector at MAF. I do know it needs a new wire harness but would that cause the issues?
Thanks

Sure,

As I said it.... COULD be many things..

The MAF can be bad , the wires/harness connecting the MAF sig can be bad , the MAF can be have a dirt film on the sensor [ why I said to clean it before replacement b/c that cost $5 and takes two min to do, and will act the same as a BAD MAF] ,. You cleaned the connector..that is not where the sensor gets the oil/dirt film. It is inside the MAF and you take it off and spray clean it's interior HFM sensors film surface with the MAF cleaner I mentioned ..Follow the simple INSTRUCTIONS on the can.
It could even be a dirty/clogged Air Filter.

Get some codes and get some input info and it will be easier to narrow down, but that takes equipment and a scan.

SO....
The recommends are ONLY mentioned b/c they are cheap, easy to do things that MAY POSSIBLY be your problem..so do them before buying big $$$ parts.
Just like the reg possible..you have eliminated that SIMPLE possible. Had that reg shown fuel out the port, you would have found the possible problem before spending any $$ and it took you all of 15 seconds to verify as OK..
