Early 80's SEC

There is a decent looking early 80's 380 SEC sitting about a block from my house with a for sale sign on it. They just reduced the price on it from $3900 to $2900. In researching it, I found out that it has been for sale since last November (found an old ad in the online version of our local newspaper). The car has about 199,500 miles on it.
I am going to call about more specifics, but I am interested in learning more about what questions I should be asking: what type of things that tend to go wrong, what are the potential expensive pitfalls of this vehicle.
I have owned an 81 300SD for twelve years, so I am familiar with older Benzes, just not gassers.

Thanks for the input!!

Mainly engine maintenance, such as the timing chain and chain guides. It should have an upgraded double row chain installed in place of the original factory single row chain.

Otherwise the car is virtually the same as your SD.

Read the buyer's guide here first.

If the car is a Euro 380 SEC then it will have a dual row timing chain in it. Only NA cars didn't until 1984 MY.

380 SEC

Thanks, Guys. The info will help me to focus in... I was hoping to check it out today, but it probably won't be until next week with my schedule.

Poor Specimen

well, I went to look at the car a little closer, and noticed multiple issues (paint cracking, hood misaligned, excessive dings on the bumpers and body, dash majorly cracked, antenna only half retracted, etc.) that have convinced me I need go no further. I don't have the time to be messing with what I've already seen, not to mention what I haven't seen...
