I would steer WAAYYY clear of VW slushboxes. They seem to be ticking time-bombs (particularily the latter units with electronic control) unlike the MB boxes. Also, there's a 20% real-world fuel economy penalty compared to their manuals... and the manuals have much easier resale (not to mention being cheaper to own right off the bat).

I would buy the manual too - but the mileage penalty is not that bad.
