Exclamation I'm going to look at a 560SEC AMG

its got 77k on the clock, and isn't running...

he said its a fuel problem, possibly the 2nd pump but has no idea and needs the cash, ASAP

how should I approach this? he's accepting offers.....

Good Luck! I'm currently watching a few myself.

The crappiest of the bunch has an asking price of (you guessed it), $4500!

How's the condition of the rest of the car? I'm seeing $2k and less for basket cases, upwards of $7 - $9K for well-kept examples.

Check the car out to the best of your ability, or if you have no ability, then take someone who knows a lot. Go over the car, take your best guess as to what's wrong with it. Then you need to know how AMG it is - body kit only? wheels/tires too? suspension? engine mods?

The deal is - you're buying risk. A lot of it or a little of it depending on what the problem is. And for that risk, you should get a greatly discounted price.

Stock SEC with body kit - $3500.
SEC with kit and suspension - $5500
SEC with kit, susp, engine mods - $7000

After he's done balking, you'll have your starting point for the negotiations. Then drag it home, hope it's a cheap fix, and POST SOME PICS!!!

he was driving around his euro 560SEC AMG ("black beauty") as well, unfortunately I wasn't available to view....

apparently both are for sale

he mentioned $4800 for the non running one, said there was one rust "nipple" on the pass side rear fender

paint is "faded" & Cinnamon color!?

Stay away from any car with rust issues. It will be expensive to repair properly and/or will progressively get worse.

Sounds neat, but rust is a deal-killer to me.

After buying a "cheap" '93 320CE, all I can say is: THERE IS NOTHING MORE EXPENSIVE THAN A CHEAP MERCEDES! Beware.
