Air conditioner on a 190E

My 190E 16V blows cold air out of the two center vents, and hot air out of the side vents. Even with the air off, if I put in on defrost
the center vents blow cold air. The A/C man that was wotking on the car is baffled, and so am I. When I bought the car, the A/C worked just fine. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Tks

All 190's ONLY blow cold air out the center. During the winter, we turn off the vents. It is in the owner's manual.
Good luck

Benzmac is right about the center vent, normally you can only get cold or outside air from center vent.
If you are getting cold air from the center and heated air from the sides at the same time it's time for a vacuum switch over valve.
The valve is located inside the dash to the rigth of the glove box,it has 7 or 8 color coded vacuum lines on it and is pretty easy to replace.

Same for '86 300E

Would the same information hold true for the 300E?

Thanks,

Just remove the glove box, there is a large wire tie that holds the valve assy. in place.

Once I get my 190E engine back together, I will be troubleshooting almost the same thing. I get very hot air out of the lower, window and side vents all the time. The center blows only cooler air. This is even with the A/C on. The heat control makes no difference.

I seem to get some kind of mix in the center vent. I can tell that there is a spot where cool air is and where hot air is.

Is my problem the same valve?

a/c

Ron;
when the system is working correctly you should get cold air from the side vents as well as the center vent.

MIKEo you have an idea on how much is the switch over valve?
I also looked on my 201 CD could it be also one of the vacuum element or the potentiometer causing the hot air on the side vent?

thanks,
Ron
