I'd like to hear suggestions as to where I can send/exchange the dash clock for my '83 240D. Since it runs fine in warm weather, I think it just needs a cleaning. Prices, turnaround times, and any other details would also be welcome.

I went through this with my 240D clock several years back. When the interior temp got below about 35F it would stall. I checked into it and it and the only solution I found was a rebuilt clock for several hundred dollars. Maybe there are less expensive alternatives now that some time has gone by.

I ended up getting one from the salvage yard for a very low price. It still works well.

I would replace the capacitors inside the clock first and oil the moving parts. The caps will cost a dollar or two, but replacement will take a while.
You need 100mfd caps with a 20-40vdc rating. (RadioShack.com)

Benzmac is right, remove the clock and replace the capacitors before spending any serious money on an overhaul. I think the parts cost me $4.00 and it took about two hours in all from tear out to rebuild to replacement. The dust bunnies were also surrounding the center shaft of the clock so I blew that off and relubed with 3 in 1 oil. Clock has been keeping great time ever since. Do a search on this site for clock and read the posts on how several of us did it, and what to look for when you do it.
